Clamp type EGT probe

This probe is often used for after market fits and is available in two sizes to suit small and large diameter exhaust manifolds.

Clamps and probe are stainless steel. Stainless braided solid conductor K-Type thermocouple  cable.

Probe diameter 5mm

Small clamp: probe length 16mm, diameter clamp 55-30mm

Large clamp: probe length 25mm, diameter clamp 65-40mm

Bolt type EGT probe

This probe is based on a metric 8x1 fine pitch thread such as used on some Rotax engines. It can be used on manifolds that do not have provision for this thread by drilling a 5mm hole for the probe and welding a suitable 8x1 fine pitch nut to the manifold to retain the probe.

This probe is available in two lengths (length of probe as measured from tip to start of thread) to suit small and large diameter exhaust pipes. Probe length: 19 and 25mm.

Stainless steel bolt and probe. K-Type thermocouple, stainless steel braided cable, 1 meter length. Solid conductors.

Consult engine manufacturer for correct position. Typical positions are:

2-stroke engine: 100mm from exhaust flange

4-stroke engine: 75mm from exhaust flange

Coolant temperature probe

This probe fits the standard Rotax 582 thread.

This probe is refered to in MGL instruments as "MGL probe" or "MGL NTC sender".

This probe is optimized for water based coolant temperature ranges.

Precision temperature probe

This probe is based on a LM335 silicon temperature sender and can be used with MGL instruments. Select probe type "Precision temperature probe" or "LM335 temperature sender".

This probe is electrically isolated which may be of advantage in some installations. The probe is suitable for water or oil based coolant temperature measurements.

CHT probes

These "under the sparkplug" CHT probes are popular choices for CHT temperature monitoring. Constructed using a two part system a copper lug and K-Type thermocouple cable with matching connector are supplied. Connector is thermally shielded by high temperature nylon sleeve (additional sleeving is recommended for high airflow applications that could result in undesired cooling of the probe itself).

Sizes to suit 10, 12, 14 and 18mm spark plugs plus a smaller version suitable for mounting under a bolt head (5.5mm hole, 12mm outer diameter).

CHT "Bayonette" probe

Machined stainless steel body with freely rotating stainless steel shaft, Brass tip. 1 meter teflon cable, K-Type thermocouple. Thread standard 3/8"-24. Isolated probe configuration.

LM335 ready made probe

This is the ambient temperature probe included as standard with any of our instruments that support ambient temperature measurements.

This probe is available as replacement but it is also a popular choice if you need to make your own coolant or oil temperature probes. In this case you use the brass body of an existing probe that fits your engines requirements, open this probe and remove everything that is inside (so you end up with a empty brass body withe the correct dimensions and thread). Then insert our LM335 probe and ensure that the probe body contacts the brass body (to ensure rapid transfer of temperature). Then use a oil resistant epoxy to seal the probe inside the brass body.

Ambient temperature (OAT) probe

It is based on a LM335 semiconductor temperature sensor similar to the above but packaged in a machined aluminum housing providing a threaded mounting base and is supplied with nylon fasteners (nut, washer).

This probe may be ordered as option for our EFIS systems (supplied as standard with the probe above)

GPS Antenna

Active GPS antenna suitable for all MGL Avionics GPS related products. SMA male connector, works on 2.7V to 3.6V systems.

Please note: This item is included in all MGL Avionics products that include a GPS receiver.

Cable length: 5 meters. Antenna has a center mount with split nut and rubber gasket. Antenna housing is suitable for painting to match aircraft. Ideal device for installation on aircraft surfaces to ensure best possible, unobstructed sky view.

Note: Do not shorten cable. Coil excess cable with diameter of about 10-15cm and then  flatten the coil to form a figure of 8. Place a cable tie in the center to maintain this shape.

Magnetic field DC current measurement sensor

This sensor can be used to measure DC currents in aircraft power systems in a wide range from less than 4A to as high as 120A depending on installation and configuration. The sensor connects to an EFIS system via spare RDAC inputs. Inputs CHT1,CHT2,OIl pressure or Oil temperature can be used and these can also be used on a second RDAC unit (consider a low cost RDAC VD as second RDAC if required). G1 and G2 EFIS systems can support up to 4 of these sensors while Enigma can support 2. These sensors can measure currents bi-directional, for example battery charge/discharge. The major advantage of these sensors is that they can be fitted to existing conductors very easily without a need to break the conductor or require the use current shunts.

For iEFIS systems, connects to the current input of an RDAC XF or RDAC XG

The FT-60 “Red Cube” fuel flow sender

Perhaps one of the best flow sensors available, the “red cube” provides extremely low pressure drop, good accuracy and repeatability.

Note: This part is not stocked by MGL Avionics in South Africa.

50A DC closed loop current sensor

Convenient contactless DC current sensing based on closed loop magnetics.  This sensor is well suited to measuring larger DC currents as well as the direction of the current. It provides a voltage output centered at 2.5V and is compatible with MGL systems.

The closed loop system is insensitive to stray magnetic fields and provides accurate and repeatable readings.

The sensor provides for cable diameters up to 9.5mm. It can also be used for very small current measurements by looping the cable several times through the sensor, increasing sensitivity.

Universal K-Type thermocouple, uncommitted, 1 meter stainless steel braided cable.

Intended for the manufacture of custom temperature probes this item provides a ready made welded thermocouple. Ideal for insertion into lugs and threaded sender bodies. Can be used with automotive senders after removing original sensor device in order to use the body of the sender. This probe can be expoxied in place in either grounded or isolated configurations.

K-Type thermocouple fitted to 5mm stainless steel shaft.

This variant provides a stainless steel shaft of 60mm length and 5mm diameter fitted with a K-Type thermocouple. Suitable for high temperature applications such as EGT monitoring. 1 meter cable length, stainless steel braided. Shaft fitted with relief spring.

Machined, stainless steel bolt, Metric 8x1 thread. Through hole 5mm diameter.

Suitable for K-Type thermocouple shaft type. Fixing methods include laser welding or crimping of the shaft as well as high temperature sealants or ceramic based high temperature adhesives.

K-Type Extension cable

Sold by the meter, this PVC sleeved K-Type cable can be used to fabricate thermocouples for low temperature applications up to 200 degrees C or it is used to extend cable lengths of probes. Typically automotive grade crimp connectors are used to connect to the cores of thermocouple cables (soldering is not easily done on these materials and not recommended). Copper or zinc plated connectors can be used provided they are next to each other (normally the case) so they are at the same temperatures. Any new thermocouples formed here (dissimilar metals) cancel each other out to a large extent.
